American Holidays: Election Day

"Election Day" is a large format board book satirizing American life. It tells the story of 15 fictional characters on the most important day for our democracy: the day we vote. The book follows these characters from the morning till evening, from when they get up and prepare for work and play through late in the evening.

"Election Day" is in the style of Wimmelbuch, or "teeming book,". The term describes picture books with detailed, busy scenes filled with numerous characters and activities. These books were originally meant to engage children with intricate illustrations that encourage observation and storytelling. Election Day returns to the origins of the Wimmelbuch in Hieronymous Bosch and Pieter Brueghel The Elder, and is intended for an adult audience.
